Interesting appt today.

September 21, 2007

We get to our appointment today and wait FOREVER to see the doctor. Mine is still on vacation so I’m seeing another doc in the practice. Finally we get in, like a hour after getting there, and She goes to check me when I ask her if she could strip my membranes. For those of you who don’t know, this is a natural way of kindda kick-starting your body into labor, but it will only work if your body is really ready. The doc replies with “will see after I check you.” Once she checks me - she says I’m already “a good 4cm” and she wants me to go to Labor & Delivery for a Non-Stress Test (NST) where they will monitor the baby’s heart-rate, and me for contractions. Once we get over there, we’re hooked up and everything looks good with the baby. The on-call doc, from the office I use (who’s different from my doc, and different from the doc I just saw), comes over to the L&D and says that the doc I just saw in the office is concerned because she really thinks I’m at 5cm. The on-call doc checks me and confirms that I am indeed 5cm! But the NST has shown me to have no contrax the whole time I’ve been there, which she says is unusual.

-Then she tells me-

They say that they’re worried that because we live 45 minutes from the hospital, my chances of making it to the hospital during active labor is, as they put it, a “toss-up”!!
A TOSS UP!
None of us are very comfortable with that idea so they’re going to call me this evening to schedule me to come it tomorrow morning for an induction! Since I’m already 5cm, it’s my second birth, and Diesel was already born by this time during his pregnancy, it’s just safer this way, we think. I’m so excited! Much better idea than giving birth on the freeway- in my opinion! Fingers are crossed that it actually happens! Check back in soon guys!

Oh you are such a chicken. Just have your baby at home like the cool kids! C’mon! Then you don’t even have to bother with the uncomfy hospital gowns and beds :-)

Can’t wait to get that call! I bet you will not sleep a wink tonight!!!!!! Woohoo Lola, here you come!

Oh wow! 5 cm and no contractions yet? I guess all that stuff you’ve been doing has been working, at least a little! Prayers for you and baby… hope you have a safe and easy delivery!

    Nicole,

This is so exciting. I’ll be thinking of you all day today. Glad the doctors suggested this plan. While having a baby on the freeway would not be fun, it would have made for an interensting post. ha ha. Take care and enjoy becoming a mamma again.

Nicole, I’m thinking about you today and hoping all goes well. It’s so exciting to know that you’ll be holding little Lola today!

A girl I work with gave birth to her son on the side of a country road earlier this year. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 14 oz. She doesn’t recommend that delivery environment if other arrangements can be made. :o)

We should all be concerned about the crumbling state of Vietnam's international adoptions. Several adoptive parents have banned together to raise awareness and created a blog called Voices for Vietnam Adoption Integrity. Their posts are interesting, well researched, and on the pulse of what's really going on. If you're interested in Vietnam adoption, their site should be your first visit. And second. And third.
